How to Choose the Right Frame Size?
Getting the size right is the most important step when ordering a picture mount. There are two key measurements to keep in mind: the aperture size and the outer size. The aperture is the window cut in the middle of the mount through which your artwork shows. This cut is always made slightly smaller than your print (usually 2-4mm) so the mount can hold the edges of the paper securely in place.
If you see the size "6x6(4x4)", it means the mount size is 6x6 and the aperture size is 4x4. The outer size refers to the full width and height of the mount, which must match the opening of your photo frame. If your picture frame is 30×40cm, then the mount's outer size also needs to be 30×40cm to fit neatly.
You'll also think about the border width, the space between your artwork and the frame. Wider borders can create a stronger visual focus, while narrower ones keep the mount subtle. For unusual artwork sizes or when you want extra-wide borders, a custom mount is often the best choice.
Size Charts For Picture Mounts(Quick Reference)
To make it easier to choose the right picture mount, here’s a quick chart showing the outer mount size alongside the aperture (window) size it is cut for. The aperture is always slightly smaller than the stated artwork size. It ensures your print sits neatly behind the mount without slipping through.

Our mount boards are cut with precision bevel edges. It creates a clean finish that draws the eye to the artwork. Standard thickness is around 1.4-1.7mm, which is strong enough for most picture frame sizes. Moreover, larger or more valuable pieces can benefit from thicker boards for added stability.
With a wide choice of colours and finishes available, you can match your mount to the artwork or the frame. Whether you prefer a subtle border or a stronger contrast, we have everything for you. Every piece is cut to order in our workshop, checked carefully for accuracy, and packaged securely for delivery.
Picture Mount Sizes and Photo Frame Compatibility
For a mount to fit properly, the outer size of the mount must match the inner opening of your frame. For example, if you have a 30×50cm picture frame, the mount board should also be 30×50cm so it sits neatly inside without gaps. The aperture size, on the other hand, should match your artwork dimensions, cut slightly smaller to keep the print in place.
All our mounts are designed to work with both ready-made frames and made-to-measure picture frames. It gives you complete flexibility when displaying your artwork. If you already own a frame, measure the visible area inside the rebate (the lip that holds the mount in place) and choose the corresponding outer mount size.
Our mounts also pair seamlessly with our own made-to-measure picture frames. They are available in a wide choice of colours and finishes. It ensures you can order the mount and frame together, understanding they will fit perfectly. For additional support, we also supply backing boards and acrylic glazing to complete the framing package.

Picture Mounts Care & Handling
Looking after your picture mounts will help them keep their clean finish and protect your artwork for a long time. Always handle mounts with clean, dry hands or cotton gloves to avoid leaving marks on the board. When placing artwork behind the mount, work on a clean, flat surface to prevent dents or scratches.
Mounted artwork should be kept away from direct sunlight, moisture, and high humidity, as these can cause fading or warping over time. If you need to store mounts before use, keep them flat in a dry, cool place, ideally between two boards for extra protection.
To remove dust, gently use a soft brush or a lint-free cloth. Avoid using liquid cleaners or sprays directly on the mount, as they can stain or weaken the surface. With the right care, your mounts will maintain their appearance and continue to protect your artwork for many years.
